The Territory of the Digital

Dutch artist duo Persijn Broersen & Margit Lukács are fascinated by the relationship between the screen and the natural world. In our current era of representation, photography has become liquid, changing our very reality through editing, filters and enhancement. This article explores the interweaving of fact and fiction through the digital territories of the artist’s work.

When Art and Science Meet

Flicker Fusion Rate, peeling an egg, stop motion without a screen. These are all experiments conducted by artists at the Visual Science of Art conference in Leuven. How can artistic practice be used as a pathway into the science of dementia and psychophysics? Join my journey as I explore my new scientific knowledge in perception gained at this very unique conference.

Cognitive Conversations: The Artist’s Perspective

PUBLIC PROGRAMME ESSAY #3

An essay exploring artistic practice investigating the impact of the digital age on perception. The narrative evolved from my observations of Cognitive Sensations, an event consisting of a series of presentations by a multi-disciplined panel, a participatory artwork called The Artist’s Presence (2018)and a Q&A session. This essay will seek to represent some of the issues we addressed, using examples of artistic practice to illustrate the conversations that artists can bring to the great debate surrounding screen culture.

The 'S' Project

An insight into The ‘S’ Project, one of the artworks within the Cognitive Sensations exhibition. Artist duo Gudrun Filipska & Carly Butler have been communicating between their respective homes (in the UK and Canada) since the end of 2016, digitally and by post – developing a project entitled ’S’ about transatlantic communication and virtual travel.

An essay exploring the issues discussed in the event ‘Attention and Memory in the Digital Age’. Attention is a hot topic in the great digital debate.
